Debate

I have always been interested in debate. Whether it was debating with my family over what to get for dinner, or being motivated by my brother participating in Model United Nations, it is something that has always been a part of my family. I wanted to experience this in a competitive sense once I got to high school, and this resulted in me participating in Model United Nations, as well as We the People, a debate competition at both the state and national level regarding American Government.

Model United Nations (MUN)

I have participated in MUN since I was in 10th grade, and since then it has aided in exponentially improving both my leadership and networking skills. In MUN, I would have to represent a country, understanding their stances on the given issue, and debate about the best solution. We would then have to form blocs - groups of delegates - in order to create a final paper of solutions to be voted on. In one of the first conferences that I had participated in, me and my partner won the distinguished delegate award in our committee, and in the most recent conference, I helped to win our school the best large school award. Furthermore, I was on the board of judges deciding who would be the students that join MUN during my senior year.

We the People

We the People, also known as the Institute for Political and Legal Education (IPLE) is an AP course that I am taking right now as a high school senior. This course is designed specifically to teach about the history of the United States' government at different points in history, with that essentially being divided into six different units. Once we've gotten into our units and groups, each unit is given their questions to prepare for the state competition. We began to prepare in October, and the competition was in January. Through a group effort, we were able to win the state competition, and are going on to represent New Jersey in the national competition in April.
